Run Misty Run!

During the late winter/early spring my friend Ashley and I decided that we were going to sign up to run a half marathon. Neither one of us had ever ran one before so we were so excited to dedicate ourselves to running one. In fact, I had never ran further than 6 miles before so I about messed my pants when I pushed the purchase button on the website. For those of you who know me well know that I am a true sprinter and struggle going slow and struggle even more going for a long run but I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. Ashley and I started our training off really well but the closer it got to the race the harder it became to train. Both of our schedules were crazy. I was still teaching and coaching track and it was really hard to find times where we both could get together to run. I decided to see if I could beg others to run with us so we could have other training buddies. I called my sister in law Lynette and convinced her and her son Jesse to sign up and run with us. The race was on June 11th which was a week after school got out.

The night before the race I couldn't sleep because I was so nervous. We had to wake up at 3:00 am because we had to be there by 4:00 even though the race didn't start until 6:00 am. When we got to the start of the race it was so cold. They built little fires all around for us to try and get warm. As the race got closer to starting I told our group to go to the very front because I didn't want to run further than I had to. When the race started we took off at a faster pace then we normally run. Ashley and I both looked at our pace on our watch and saw that it was a lot faster but we both said that we felt awesome and thought that we would be fine (we later realized that was a stupid decision). When we got to the 6 mile mark we were at 43 mins which is a little slower then a 7 min mile pace. We slowed it down some but not enough. We were both doing awesome until about the 9 mile mark, which is where my family was watching. After I passed them I realized that there was no way I could finish the race at the pace I was going and that I better slow down or I won't make it but Ashley kept going. When I got to the 10 mile mark I thought that I was going to die. I remember thinking that there was no way I was going to be able to run another mile. I don't know how my legs kept going. When I had about 2 miles left I saw Ashley ahead of me and it looked like she was in the same boat as I was. When I got to her I thought about running the rest of the way with her but I thought if I slow down any more I will stop and I made it my goal to not walk so I passed her and kept going. I finally finished with a time of 1 hour and 58 min. My goal was to run under 2 hours and to run faster than Jason did when he ran his last year ( 2 hr and 20 min). I remember the last two miles the thing that really kept me going was telling myself not to let Jason's time beat me.As I was at the finish line I kept looking for Ashley thinking that she should have been right behind me. A couple mins go by then I noticed that two race workers were practically carrying Ashley because she was so out of it. I felt so guilty for not running the last part with her. We took her to the medical tent where they tried helping her with little success. The whole time we were in there she was saying the funniest things becuase she was so delirious. We finally decided to take her to the emergency room where she had 3 IV bags put in her, that is how drained she was. Luckily everything turned out okay and we can now look back and laugh at all the crazy things she was saying

I love Cruises!!!

In January Jason and I went on a cruise with his sister Tara and her husband Brandon. The cruise departed out of Galveston Texas and stopped at Jamaica, Grand Caymens, and Cozumel. I was the only one out of the four of us who had ever been on a cruise before. I told them all that cruises aren't bad and that they won't even tell that they are moving. I was way off!!! When the ship set sail it was stormy and really cold in Galveston. That first night was really rocky and I think that we all got a little sea sick. We had to go to the nurses station to get motion sickness medication. After that first night it was smooth sailing from there.

Jason loved the cruise. Constant entertainment, sports, sun, food... One of his favorite things was the dinner options. He loved that he didn't have to pick which meal to eat because he could just get one of each. He also loved that there was always some type of sports competition going on at the sports court. In fact, every activity they offered we won!!! Brandon and Jason took first place in a three on three basketball tournament, the four of us took first in a volleyball tournament, Jason and Brandon joined with some other guys to win the dodgeball tournament, Jason took first place in the foul shot competition, and the last night Jason took first in the hot shots shoot around competition... and believe it or not I took second place. All together Jason and I took home 6 gold and one silver medals. Brandon enjoyed wearing all the medal to watch people stare.
Jamaica Jamaica was my favorite yet scariest island of all the places we stopped. We took a hour ride to the Dunn river falls. This was one of the most beautiful places that I have seen. The four of us climbed the waterfalls which are about 1,000 feet high. It was a blast climbing from the bottom to the top. After we climbed the falls we drove to a different location to do some tubing down the river.
As we were driving back to our ship we got in a huge traffic jam. We were suppose to be back on the ship at 4:30 and it was 4:25 and we were still miles away. It was the longest ride of my life. The clock was moving but we were not. The ship had warned everybody that when the time came they would leave no matter who gets left beind. This was one of the most nerve racking moments of my life. If the ship left us we would have been in trouble because we only had small change with us and all of our ID'S were on the ship. When we pulled up they were getting the ramp ready to pull in. The people at the entrance were yelling at us to hurry. When we were going through the metal detectors we heard them radio the captain saying that the last four were on. After we left that building and headed to the ramp the whole side of the ship was full of people staring at us and they all started clapping. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.

Grand Caymens

The first thing we did was take a boat ride to a sandbar called Stingray City. This was so cool because we were in the middle of the ocean but we were able to stand because the sand was high enough. This area is a place were the stingrays come to breed. It was kind of scary but cool to be this close to them. They would just swim all around you. The tour guide would catch them and let us hold and feed them. As you can see the photographer was big on having you kiss them too. When we were done there we drove to a different location to snorkel. After our crazy experience we decided to go back on the boat early so that we wouldn't cut it close again.

Cozumel

When we got off the ship in Cozumel we found out that our ship was docked right by a ship that Taylor Swift was on. It was really cool to know we were that close to her but unfortunately we didn't get to see her.

This was the hottest islands of all our stops. When we got there we decided to rent scooters and drive around the island.
The first place we decided to go was the Mayan ruins. We were hoping they would be bigger than what they were but they were still pretty cool. As we were walking around we saw some of the biggest Iguana's I have ever seen. Jason and Brandon kept trying to get close to take a picture. On our drive back out to the shops we decided to stop at a little stand and grab some drinks (Jason really wanted to grab a coke). The last place we stopped was the beach.

Fall

This fall the Lone Peak volleyball team traveled to Chicago and they took me with them. I had so much fun. The first night that we were there we went and saw the broadway play "The Lion King" I LOVED IT!!! I recommend it to everyone. Even though we were there to play in a tournament we were able to still do a lot of things to enjoy the city. We took a boat tour and just walked around most of down town. The food was so good especially the pizza. I was really disappointed that I didn't get to see the United center where Micheal Jordan played. One day I will go back

While I was gone Jason was busy at work. A long time ago we sold our old dressers and I have been complaining about not having any ever since. So Jason decided that while I was gone he would suprise me by building some. They look so good!!!! Jason has developed this little hobby of building things. This summer he built a book shelf for our master bedroom. I am so amazed at how talented he is. He doesn't know this but now that I know he can build things I have a lot more ideas for the future.

Jason's big adventure

Jason is always doing things that amaze me. When we were first married he decided he would run a 10k with his family and he hadn't exercised in months. He did well for not having done any type of exercise in months. This summer he decided at the last minute that he was going to run a half marathon with his sisters (literally last min. he entered the race at 9:00p.m. the night before). He hadn't trained at all. In fact the furthest he had ever ran was a 10k. I waited at the finish with my phone in hand waiting for them to call and say Jason died some where along the way. To my suprise he came running to the finish line with his extemely fit sister Christie. He ran the half in a little over 2 hours. I was so shocked. He told me that he ran the whole way never stopping to walk once.

The poor guy was so exhausted. He threw up several times throughout the rest of the day. Later that night we went to the movies and he could hardly walk up and down the stairs. He laughed at himself and said that he looked like one of his uncles who has MD.

Are you serious... What's next?

The month of July was a crazy one for Jason and I. We discovered that our basement was flooding and that the problem was coming from a pipe from the outside. Jason decided to fix the problem on his own. He dug down 8 feet of straight clay (We don't have dirt instead we have clay). The poor guy had blisters all over his hands when he was done.

He finally fixed the problem but as you can see he got a little messy in the meantime. We had to spray him off with the hose.

Towards the end of the month Jason and I went to Blanding/Monticello for a softball tournament that he and his family were playing in. The last night we were there, Jason and I decided to go to this little pizza joint. Jason was still in his softball clothes so he didn't have any pockets. When we entered the pizza place Jason put his keys on the front counter while we ordered; after we ordered we sat down to eat. When we were done, we got up to leave and Jason realized that he no longer had his keys with him; he remembered setting them on the counter. We went up front to ask for them and they said they hadn't seen them; basically our keys disappeared. We searched the whole place from top to bottom and still came up empty. So here we are in the middle of this small town without any keys and no spare set.

The restaurant called the cops. Lucky for us our good friends/neighbors were in town for his 10 year high school reunion. I called up Preston and Ashley to see if they could help us. We needed to break into our car since we had left some valuable things inside (golf clubs, ipods, GPS system, etc) Preston was a pro and broke into our car for us. In the meantime, since Monticello is such a small town, it seemed like everybody in town was driving by. Jason's aunt and uncle both saw us on the side of the road and they stopped by to help. We were lucky to have them there since they know everybody in town. His aunt knew the cop and she convienced him to let us steal a dolly to tow the car. The cop gave us permission to steal a dolly from the town Uhaul store. Just after we stole the dolly the guy who owns the place stopped by. Lucky for us the cop gave permission to do it so we weren't in trouble. We then payed for it... $85 because some prick took our keys.

We towed the car back to Preston's parents house. Thanks to the Bunkers we were able to tow our car back home and hitch a ride ourselves.

Newport Beach

Jason and I decided to take a last min. vacation to Newport California. When we arrived and entered the lobby of our hotel we saw an unusal sceen. At the hotel we were staying at they were having a medieval role playing convention going on in one of the banquet rooms. (just in case you missed it YES I did say ROLE PLAYING). There were so many people dressed up. Jason and I couldn't resist so we walked down to the banquet room to take a peek. This is a picture of the guy who was guarding the door so normal people (that would be people who weren't given a character to play) would not enter. I was fighting back laughter the whole time. They actaully let me try on some of the costumes and let me fight one of the other characters. Jason took footage of this on his phone in case you want to see.

The first day Jason and I were so excited to be on vacation at the beach. He and I got in our swimming suits and took off to the beach. When we arrived we were so bummed that it was cold. We walked around hoping that it would get warmer but no luck. We spent the day sight seeing and shopping. We were so bummed and hoped that the rest of the vacation wasn't so cold. The next day we woke up to find the sun was out and it was nice!!! We spent the whole morning and afternoon hanging out on the beach. We should have realized that this was really our first time out all year and probably can't handle a whole day of sun because later that night we had to find a Walmart to buy some aloe. Our favorite part of Newport was Balboa. We had lunch at this cute diner that was at the end of the pier and it overlooked the ocean. After lunch we rented a canoe and we paddled around the whole Balboa Island.

The next day we decided that we better avoid the sun to give our skin a break so we headed up to LA to visit Hollywood. We took one of those tours that drives you around to all the major sites of LA. They also took us around to see where some famous people live. We saw the houses of... Micheal Jackson, George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Tom Cruise, Shandra Bullock, Halle Berry (there were a few more) but my favorite was the playboy mansion ;). We had a lot of fun but now it is back to reality.
